How To Install The Stamping Die?

Mold installation and removal

The installation and disassembly of the mold is a very critical skill of a stamping worker. It basically uses all the operations of the press mold height adjustment, fine adjustment, workbench clamping and loosening, workbench opening, etc.
From the perspective of the mold, tooling accidents are prone to occur during mold installation and disassembly, which can cause fatal damage to the mold.

In addition, the rationality of mold assembly adjustment has a very important impact direct relationship on the service life, stability, and quality of stamping parts.

Also, from a production point of view, mastering the working essentials of loading and unloading molds is conducive to shortening the mold change time, thereby increasing labor productivity. The following is the description and explanation of the procedures and precautions for mold installation and disassembly:

  1. Single-action mold installation

A1. Open the workbench and clean it up

Clean the worktable guide rails before opening, clean up waste and other debris, check whether there are items on both sides of the mold table that are over-wide, to prevent interference with the main column of the press when the worktable is opened, and cause accidents. The stop position of the workbench should be reasonable, with square hanging mould and mould placing as the standard, but a certain safety distance should be kept from the block of the guide rail;

A2. Install the ejector rod according to the “Operation Instructions” and ensure that the ejector rod length is consistent

Select the ejector pin and ejector position according to the ejector pin diagram in the “Operation Instructions”. After placing the ejector pin, check to ensure the consistency of the ejector pin position and length. In order to make the mold placement position accurate, follow In the instruction book, place positioning pins on the corresponding positions of the mold. In addition, the cover plate of the ejector hole should be placed in a fixed position to prevent loss;

A3. Lift the mold on the worktable and align the center with the worktable center of the press

Clean the bottom and upper surface of the mold before placing the mold. After the mold is placed, check the alignment of the installation grooves with the T-shaped groove of the press to facilitate installation;

A4. The worktable is opened and clamped

Clean the base of the press before the workbench is moved in. When the workbench is moved in, it must be opened in place before it can be dropped and clamped;

A5. Adjust the installation height of the mold (installation height of the mold = mold storage height + 10cm);

A6. The single-action drawing die is to test the ejector rod 20-30cm away from the upper surface of the mold, and the air cushion will be dropped after the ejector rod is correct;

A7. Open the slider until the bottom surface of the slider touches the upper surface of the mold, install the upper mold screw and lock it, and put the lower mold screw-on, remember not to lock it;

A8. Open the slider to the top dead center, take out the remaining sample, and remove the storage limiter;

A9. Clean and lubricate the mold;

A10. Finely adjust the height of the mold assembly, close the mold after the slider has two empty strokes, and tighten the lower mold screws (pay attention to whether the working conditions of each part of the mold are normal during the empty stroke, and notify the mold repairer if there is any abnormality)

A11. Single-action drawing die should adjust the air cushion pressure value;

A12. Put the first piece into production after passing the commissioning, and fill in the “Mold Daily Inspection Form” and “Self Inspection Record Form”.

B. Double-action mold installation

B1. The steps of table opening and clamping are the same as single-action molds;

B2. Adjust the installation height of the mold. (The installation height of the double-moving mold is the adjustment value added to the installation height of the mold, and the adjustment value is generally between 0.5-2.5);

B3. Open the slider to the bottom dead center (pay attention to the table value of the hydraulic cushion pressure gauge), loosen the inner and outer slider clamps, and check the relaxation, after confirming the relaxation, use the fine-tuned jog to open the slider to the upper dead center point.

Since the operator cannot see the inside of the inner slide, someone must look at the pressure gauge of the inner slide when the slide is down. When the pointer moves, it means that the inner slide is in contact with the mold. If it is not at the bottom dead center, the height of the mold should be adjusted upward. Note: After the slider clamp is loosened, the operator must check the loosening of the clamp one by one to ensure work safety;

B4. Install the screws, tighten the upper die screws and open the slider to the bottom dead center;

B5. After clamping the inner and outer slider, open the slider to the top dead center, and clean and lubricate the mold;

B6. After the slide block is idle for the second time, close the mold with fine adjustment and lock the lower mold. During the idle stroke, the convex and concave molds of the mold should not be pierced to protect the mold surface from damage;

B7. Fill in the “Daily Inspection Form of Work Equipment” and “Self-inspection Record Form” for the first piece that is qualified for debugging.

C. Single-action mold removal

C1. Carefully check whether each part of the mold is in good condition, whether the waste is removed, and wipe all parts of the mold clean;

C2. Put the storage limiter on and close the mold (make the storage limiter slightly deformed by force, if it is a rigid storage limiter, use the mold height adjustment during quick contact) and then remove the upper and lower mold screws;

C3. After the slider is opened to the top dead center, the workbench is relaxed and opened;

C4. Lift the mold to the storage place and clean the workbench.

D. Unload the double-action mold

D1. Carefully check all parts of the mold and wipe it clean, and the parts are in place;

D2. Adjust the mounting height to the mounting height of the mold and open the slider to the bottom dead center; the mounting height is the mounting height of the press when the mold is installed and the backing plate is relaxed;

D3. After loosening the inner and outer sliding blocks, the sliding blocks are opened to the top dead center, and the mounting screws are removed. After the clamps are loosened, the clamps must be checked one by one;

D4. After the slider is opened to the bottom dead center, clamp the inner and outer sliders. After clamping the clamps, check the clamps one by one;

D5. Open the slider to the top dead center, relax the workbench and drive it out;

D6. Hoist the mold to the storage place and clean the work surface;

D7. The mold is hoisted back to the storage place, and the upper surface of the mold is covered with a plastic sheet.

E. Joint installation of mold

The joint installation refers to the simultaneous installation of two or more molds on one work surface for production. Its advantages include improved equipment utilization, high production efficiency, low manufacturing cost, etc.; but it has disadvantages such as inconvenient loading and unloading, high mold manufacturing requirements, and reduced production safety.

Conditions for the joint installation of the mold

  • The closed height of the mold must be the same height;
  • The center of the punching force after the joint installation must coincide with the pressure center of the press;
  • The operation in production must be convenient.

Primary maintenance of the mold

The first-level maintenance of the mold refers to the daily maintenance of the mold by the operator during production. The main content is cleaning, lubrication, and inspection.

A. Maintenance during mold installation

A1. Clean the upper and lower surfaces of the mold before installing the mold to ensure that the mold mounting surface and the press table are not crushed and the parallelism of the upper and lower mounting surfaces of the mold during production;

A2. After the mold is installed, open the mold and clean all parts of the mold, especially the guide mechanism. For the surface mold, the surface must be cleaned to ensure the quality of the part;

A3. Lubricate each sliding part of the mold and apply grease;

A4. Inspection of all parts of the mold, especially safety parts. Such as safety side pins, safety screws, side guards, punching waste channels, etc.

B. Maintenance during production

B1. Regularly apply oil to the corresponding part of the mold during production. Such as the pressing ring and fillet of the drawing die; the knife-edge part of the trimming die; the flanging knife block part, etc.;

B2. Regularly clean the small hole waste passage of the trimming punching die.

C. Maintenance after production

C1. After the end of production, a comprehensive inspection of the mold is required;

C2. Thoroughly clean the mold to ensure the cleanliness of the mold;

C3. Clean up the waste in the mold to ensure that there is no waste in the waste box;

C4. Factually feedback the use status and situation of the mold to the “Mold Use Worksheet”.
